I headed up to the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California recently for my annual wanderings. The day I arrived I was greeted by a beautiful thunderstorm. On day two, while still acclimating to the high elevation at the trailhead, I was blessed by another thunderstorm. This is that storm. I placed my recorder in the twisted roots of a fallen tree to shelter it, while I sheltered on the leeward side of another fallen tree.
In part one, two rain showers move through with thunder scattered throughout as wind whispers in the trees. Then in part 2 the storm moves off over the Sierra Crest and almost constant thunder echoes across the ancient landscape of tree and stone. In the end all that is left is the wind.
